Letter to the Editor: Region scores with border entry funding

Since coming to Congress, we’ve fought for a budget that invests in infrastructure necessary to support our economic recovery. Funding for the San Ysidro Port of Entry has been at the top of our list. The hours-long wait times at our broken border cost the region an estimated $7.2 billion in economic output and 62,000 jobs annually.

We’ve been consistent, outspoken advocates at news conferences, in letters to Congress and President Obama, and via engagement with local leaders. This week, the funds to continue building the new border crossing are in the omnibus spending package Congress will consider. Thanks to the longtime advocacy of Rep. Susan Davis, our senators and business leaders, and support from Reps. Duncan Hunter and Darrell Issa, the U.S. will be able to move our part forward, and San Diegans will reap the benefits. This is a big win for the region.
