Rep. Juan Vargas to Co-Host a Military Voting Forum

Washington, DC (April 27, 2016)Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51), in conjunction with the Democratic Committee on House Administration, announced a forum on military voting will be held in Chula Vista, CA on Friday, May 6th.

The forum will act as an open dialogue where top government officials and military voting experts will provide attendees with information on the state of military voting and provide the best methods to protect the voting rights of service members. One of the key issues service members face when voting is lack of accessibility to ballots.

“The men and women that serve our country should not be encountering obstacles when casting their vote,” said Rep. Vargas.

The following is a list of speakers confirmed for the forum:

  • Matt Boehmer, Director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program
  • Michael Vu, Registrar of Voters, County of San Diego

“Members of the armed services face obstacles to the ballot.  Defending our rights abroad should never come at the expense of their rights at home,” said Rep. Robert Brady (PA-01), Ranking member of the Committee on House Administration. “Please join us as we hear from voters and election administrators as we learn how we can protect our military’s right to vote, no matter where duty calls.”
