Rep. Vargas Launches 2014 Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON, DC (March 10, 2014) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) proudly announced the launch of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition.  Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district and throughout the nation. The winning works are displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

“The nationwide Congressional Art Competition is an excellent opportunity to showcase the great creative talents of our high school students and recognize our gifted young artists,” said Rep. Vargas.  “I am looking forward to this year’s art submissions and I am thrilled to have the chance to select a new, highly talented student to represent California’s 51st Congressional District for 2014.”

Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border.  Vargas is currently serving his first term in Congress.  He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
