SAN DIEGO, CA (December 21, 2023) – Recently, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-52), co-led a letter with Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51), along with Rep. Scott Peters (CA-50), Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49), and Rep. Raul Ruiz (CA-25) urging Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas to allocate resources that will help assist with processing asylum seekers in Jacumba. As we approach wintertime, San Diego’s rural border region will reach average lows of 33 degrees, and we must ensure those seeking asylum are not exposed to these dangerous weather conditions.

“Seeking asylum is legal in the United States and as a Representative on the U.S. - Mexico border, we must continue to aid the most vulnerable who are seeking a better life,” said Rep. Vargas. “I remain grateful to our local non-profits and U.S. Border Patrol for their continued work to ensure all individuals are assisted and processed.”
