In my Washington, DC office, internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
Overview:
The internship program with Representative Juan Vargas’ office provides hands-on experience in the workings of a congressional office. Interns will engage in meaningful tasks and projects, enhancing their understanding of the legislative process and developing professional skills valuable for future careers. This internship program is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the legislative environment and to develop key skills that will aid in future career paths within public service and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:

Complete an end-of-term co-sponsorship project and draft legislative memos.

Attend briefings and hearings and provide comprehensive write-ups.

Join stakeholder meetings and contribute insights.

Support legislative or press activities aligned with individual interests.

Serve as an administrative assistant by preparing weekly reports, tracking bills/letters signed, managing office operations, and building contact lists.

Work on and complete a monthly project that aligns with office priorities.

Assist with constituent correspondence, including managing phones, emails, and tours.
Spring Semester Application Deadline: Friday, December 6th
CALIFORNIA
In my California office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance.
