It’s undeniable: our climate is changing before our very eyes.
Wildfires, floods, and hurricanes – and the risk of future climate disasters – have a significant impact on our communities and our businesses. In south San Diego County, we’ve witnessed this firsthand with historic storms and flooding in recent years that have caused so much damage to homes, businesses, and livelihoods. These extreme weather events are only growing more frequent.
For too long, cross-border sewage pollution in the Tijuana River Valley has harmed public health, our local economies, and our ecosystems. I’ve been fighting to address this issue for years and I won’t let up:
Every single day, over 120 people in the United States are killed with guns, nearly twice as many are shot and wounded, and countless others are impacted by senseless acts of gun violence. Firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens.
Too many families and communities know the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. We need common sense public safety laws to reduce gun violence and stop this bloodshed.
America has a long, proud tradition as a nation of immigrants. As the son of immigrants and a first-generation American, I know that immigrants strengthen our communities and our economies. They deserve their chance at achieving the American Dream.
Homes provide a space for children to thrive, small businesses to start, and families to grow. We need to make sure affordable housing is within reach.
One of my main priorities is helping to make housing more affordable for the people of south San Diego County. I have long supported the Low Income Housing Tax Credits and championed tax credits for first-time homebuyers. It’s also why I have championed efforts to support community development, affordable housing, and first-generation homebuyers.
Our constitutional civil rights are the heart of our democracy. We must work to ensure everyone in America is treated with dignity and that civil rights and freedoms are protected.
That means not only ensuring that all citizens can participate freely in our democracy and maintaining trust in government institutions, but also fighting against discrimination in all forms, securing equal pay and reproductive rights for women, furthering LGBTQ+ equality, and more.
