Rep. Vargas Statement on Historical Inauguration of President Biden and Vice-President Harris
Washington, DC (January 20, 2021) – Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement on the historical inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris:
"This is a White House that cares and works for ALL Americans, no matter where they came from, what they look like, or who they love. I trust that the new administration will do everything in their power to guide us to be more united and put the American People first. Today, we welcome integrity and true American values back into the White House as our country heals and prepares to build back better.
"On day one, President Biden took a historic number of actions to provide economic relief and support for working families, tackle climate change, and advance racial equity for people of color and others who have been historically underserved and marginalized.
"As a first-generation American, I look forward to working with an administration that will ensure that all our communities have access to the American dream we all learned about as children. President Biden is sending Congress an immigration bill which will create a realistic path to citizenship for our most vulnerable populations, including 11 million undocumented Americans, DREAMers, individuals with Temporary Protected Status, farmworkers, and essential workers. This is an important step forward. I will continue my work in Congress to ensure we have an immigration system that works.
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County, and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fifth term in Congress.
