Rep. Vargas Statement on Reopening the Government

WASHINGTON, DC (January 25, 2019) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement.

“For thirty-five days, President Trump and Republicans held our government hostage at the expense of the American people. Though I am relieved that we will re-open our government, I cannot celebrate an announcement that is only a temporary fix. The President is responsible for leaving 800,000 federal workers and their families financially insecure and causing substantial damage to the entire American economy.”

Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border.  Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fourth term in Congress.  He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.
