Rep. Vargas, San Diego Delegation Secure Over $39 Million in Shelter and Services Program Funding for San Diego

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Juan Vargas (CA-52) announced over $39 million in Shelter and Services Program (SSP) funding for San Diego communities and organizations that provide critical assistance to migrants awaiting the outcome of their immigration proceedings.

“The San Diego area has a long tradition of welcoming individuals seeking asylum and refuge with open arms. I’m proud to have worked alongside my San Diego delegation colleagues to secure this critical funding for communities and organizations aiding migrants,” said Rep. Juan Vargas. “This funding will help make sure they have the resources they need to continue their important work to provide migrant communities with food, shelter, and other critical services.”

The County of San Diego and the Catholic Diocese of San Diego County were both awarded $19,592,554 in SSP funding.

In February, Rep. Vargas joined his San Diego Congressional delegation colleagues in sending a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas urging DHS to release available funding for the Shelter and Services Program under Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Continuing Resolutions (CR).
