Washington, DC (January 05, 2016) - Representative Juan Vargas (CA-51) issued the following statement on President Obama's Executive Actions to reduce gun violence:

"President Obama's executive action on gun control is a great first step in the fight against gun violence," said Rep. Vargas. "Now, it's up to Congress to support the President's actions and keep guns out of the wrong hands. I look forward to working with my colleagues to confront this devastating crisis."


December 18, 2015

Washington, DC (December 18, 2015) - Representative Juan Vargas (CA-51) voted in favor of the $1.15 trillion government spending bill voted on and approved by the House of Representatives today. Over 100 programs supported by Rep. Vargas were included in the bill. Rep. Vargas issued the following statement after voting on the Fiscal Year 2016 Consolidated Appropriations Act:

Bill Pascrell, Jr lead a group of Representatives from across the United States to send a letter to the House Appropriations Committee encouraging them to increase funding for refugee assistance and resettlement programs in the FY2016 budget.

Washington, DC (November 18, 2015) - Today, Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) introduced the "Imperial Valley Desert Conservation and Recreation Act of 2015" (H.R. 4060). This bill designates and transfers land in order to protect key habitats and creates new recreational areas including permitting motorized recreation on designated routes.

Washington, DC (November 10, 2015) — Today, Representative Juan Vargas (D-CA-51) and Representative Jeff Denham (R-CA-10) launched the Immigrant Servicemembers and Veterans Caucus, in an effort to focus on issues related to current Servicemembers and Veterans who are immigrants or on a pathway to a lawful immigration status. On the eve of Veteran's Day, the caucuses launched to honor and recognize the contributions of immigrants who have and are serving in the military.

Washington, DC (October 29, 2015) – The White House has launched the "Bright Spots" Catalog in celebration of the Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics' 25th Anniversary. The document serves as a resource featuring 230 organizations across the Country that help further the education of members of the Hispanic community.

The "Bright Spots" Catalog features three organizations from the 51st District: the Barrio Logan College Institute, Reality Changers, and the San Ysidro Vanguard Education Foundation.
