Washington, D.C.—Today, the Chicano Park Preservation Act (H.R. 3711), a bill introduced by Congressman Juan Vargas in 2015, has moved out of the House Committee on Natural Resources on unanimous consent. The bill will be moving forward with the possibility of being considered on the House Floor before the end of the 114th Congress.

(September 21, 2016)—Today, Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) introduced a bill package that will prevent veterans from being deported and help veterans that have been deported get access to the medical service they deserve. The “Immigrant Veterans Eligibility Tracking System (I-VETS) Act of 2016” (H.R. 6091), “Healthcare Opportunities for Patriots in Exile (HOPE) Act of 2016” (H.R. 6092), and “Naturalization at Training Sites (NATS) Act of 2016” (H.R. 6093) are part of this legislative package.

Washington, DC (July 6, 2016)—Today, Representative Juan Vargas (CA-51) and Representative Duncan Hunter (CA-50) introduced the “California New River Restoration Act of 2016” (H.R. 5629). This bipartisan bill improves restoration and conservation efforts in the New River in both California and Mexico through the creation of a California New River restoration program.

Washington, D.C. (October 8, 2015) - Today, Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) introduced the Chicano Park Preservation Act (H.R. 3711). This bill instructs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a thorough study of Chicano Park in order to evaluate its national significance and determine the feasibility of the park becoming a National Historic Landmark.

Washington, DC (March 21, 2016) – Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) is leading efforts to secure $248 million for Phase 2 of the Calexico West Land Port of Entry (LPOE) Reconfiguration and Expansion Project. President Obama’s Fiscal year 2017 budget includes this level of funding, which will be the final funds needed to complete the Calexico West LPOE.

Washington, DC (March 16, 2016) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) and Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY) introduced the “Wounded Warrior Housing Reform Act of 2016” (H.R. 4753). This bipartisan bill would add disability compensation and pension benefits for veterans of a period of war who are 65 years of age or older to the list of items that are excluded from income, to determine a veteran’s eligibility for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing assistance programs.
