Washington, DC (November 10, 2015) — Today, Representative Juan Vargas (D-CA-51) and Representative Jeff Denham (R-CA-10) launched the Immigrant Servicemembers and Veterans Caucus, in an effort to focus on issues related to current Servicemembers and Veterans who are immigrants or on a pathway to a lawful immigration status. On the eve of Veteran's Day, the caucuses launched to honor and recognize the contributions of immigrants who have and are serving in the military.
Washington, DC (October 29, 2015) – The White House has launched the "Bright Spots" Catalog in celebration of the Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics' 25th Anniversary. The document serves as a resource featuring 230 organizations across the Country that help further the education of members of the Hispanic community.
The "Bright Spots" Catalog features three organizations from the 51st District: the Barrio Logan College Institute, Reality Changers, and the San Ysidro Vanguard Education Foundation.

Washington, D.C. (October 9, 2015) - Today, Rep. Thomas J. Rooney (FL-17) and Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) introduced the Rare Disease (RaD) Fund Act of 2015 (H.R. 3731). The creation of this Fund would transform the life sciences industry by implementing a novel financial structure for early stage development. The bill seeks to act as a bridge to the ever-widening funding gap that currently exists between basic research and clinical development.

This bill instructs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a thorough study of Chicano Park in order to evaluate its national significance and determine the feasibility of the park becoming a National Historic Landmark.

When Rep. Juan C. Vargas attends Pope Francis' address to Congress next week, it won't be his first time in the pontiff's presence.
The California Democrat arranged to meet briefly with the pope in August 2014 in Rome and a photo from their encounter serves as the background on Vargas' cell phone. The two men also share a deep bond: Vargas is a former member of the Society of Jesus, a Catholic order whose members include Francis.
